MY APPROACH TO THERAPY

My job is to help you move towards your goals by building a safe therapeutic relationship, being a support and witness to your work, and offering tools and resources to increase your capacity for living a life that feels fulfilling and sustainable to you.

My practice is affirming of all genders, sexualities and consenting relationship structures, including polyamory, and various forms of non-monogamy.

I am a sex-positive therapist who is supportive of and informed around kink/BDSM, and sex work.

My work is also informed by brilliant activists from the Fat Liberation and Disability Justice movements.

Therapeutically, I am guided by feminist therapy, narrative therapy, attachment theory, expressive arts and creative therapies, somatic and experiential practices that include Ecotherapy and integrative body/mind therapies such as mindfulness and Polyvagal Theory.

Some certifications and trainings that inform my work include:

- Graduate Certification in Ecotherpy/ Ecopsychooogy

-Level 3 Trained in Gottman Method Couples Therapy

-Clinical Applications of Polyvagal Theory in Trauma Treatment with Stephen Porges & Deb Dana

GOTTMAN METHOD COUPLES THERAPY

I work with couples using Gottman Method, having completed the Level 3 training.

When I work with couples we focus on learning tools that will help increase connection and intimacy and give you better ways to navigate conflict.

Gottman Method is an

evidence- based approach to couples therapy where with thorough assessment of your relationship I help you integrate research-based interventions to change patterns of relational behavior from stagnant to fertile and connective.

The Nuts and Bolts of This Process

Gottman Method Couples Therapy consists of five parts:

  • Assessment

  • Treatment

  • “Phasing Out” of Therapy

  • Termination

  • Outcome Evaluation

At the beginning of the process I'll ask you to fill out online relationship questionnaires through Gottman Connect to get a better understanding your relationship. These questionnaires helps with assessment by looking at strengths and challenges, and gives me detailed clinical information to build a treatment that will best support your relationship.

The cost of the Gottman Connect is $39 per couple, paid directly to the Gottman Institute through the online portal.

In the first session we dive into your relationship history, the joys and connections and the challenges and concerns, and from there we talk about what the goals of therapy will be.

Next, I will meet with each of you one-on-one to hear about your personal histories and your feelings and thoughts about your relationship.

Then we will come back together to talk about our goals and treatment recommendations for our work together.

How long we work together will depend on the work you are doing between sessions and how we are meeting the goals we set.

When you begin to utilize your new tools and see some change emerging we begin to  “phase out” and meet less frequently.

For the outcome-evaluation phase, we plan four follow-up sessions: 6 months, 12 months, 18 months and 2 years.

Research shows a significant decrease in previous unhelpful patterns when these follow-up sessions are part of the treatment. It also gives space for us to check-in on how your new skills are working in the relationship and revisit the places that might need additional support.

Assessment and Fees

The elements of the Assessment Stage:

Session #1 Intake Interviews    80-90 minutes

Session #2 Individual Interviews

45 minutes/each (90 total)

Session #3 Treatment Planning    80-90 minutes

The fee for each of these Assessment sessions, as well as all ongoing 90 minute sessions,  is $275

INDIVIDUAL COUNSELING

Counseling can be a place where you have support in carrying what you have been trying to hold on your own. In our sessions my hope is to build a relationship that allows you to have a witness for whatever it is you are processing. A place where you can get feedback, and work through the steps for creating whatever change, growth and healing you are looking for in your life. My goal is to be with you for whatever part of your journey you share with me, and help to access the skills and insight you can take with you in what you are currently struggling with and for whatever lies ahead.

RELATIONSHIP THERAPY

I love working with couples and various polyamorous relationships, as well as collectives, friendships and chosen family. My goal in supporting you in this work is to be a witness and ally in finding different tools and ways of communicating and co-regulating to create the relationships you desire.

This work is informed by the training I have in The Gottman Method, and may use tools from Gottman, but is not the same as the evidence-based model.

ECOTHERAPY

We Are Animals
We are all a part of a number of systems, including our communities, family, cultures and sub-cultures. Another system that every one of us is a part of is the ecosystem, where, as animals, we are part of the living world.

In Ecotherapy, we look at our connection with and disconnection from the rest of nature. We ask how this disconnection might be affecting our mental, or emotional wellbeing. We also look at how our relationship with nature can offer us insight and coping tools for our own balance.

Ecotherapy is about relationships and systems, and can be both part of in-office therapy or even telehealth, or can take place outdoors.

In my practice Ecotherapy comes into our sessions as it makes sense for each individual client.

I have Ecotherapy groups, workshops and retreats. Please visit the Group Therapy page to learn about current group offering.

You can also contact me to inquire about bringing an Ecotherapy workshop or retreat to your school, office, or community space.

INSURANCE REIMBURSEMENT

Insurance companies will often reimburse for out-of-network providers. I am happy to provide you with a SuperBill for submitting to your insurer for reimbursement. I recommend clients check with their insurance provider about out-of-network reimbursement before relying on this method.

GOOD FAITH ESTIMATE

As of January 1, 2022, all healthcare providers are required to provide estimates of the costs of your care if you are paying out of pocket or if your provider is billing out of network. The Good Faith Estimate shows the cost of items and services reasonably expected for your healthcare needs and treatment. This office will provide this as requested. This Good Faith Estimate does not include unexpected costs that could arise during treatment.
